HDM-2008 Social Program
The social program is stil under development and may be subject to change.
Current plan is as follows:
"Sucuk" Barbecue Party at Mount Erciyes (21
June 2008 Saturday): Our comfortable buses will take
us from the conference hotel at 15:00 and carry us to the top
of the Mount Erciyes. The journey is approximately 45 minutes.
After having some short sightseeing and filling our lungs with
oxygene, there will be an open-air barbecue party. “Sucuk”
sandwiches and other sandwiches with delicious grilled meat will
be served with unlimited drinks. “Sucuk” (pronounced
sue-juke) is a locally prepared meat with special spices and garlic.
Once a local food, sucuk is now an important item in food industry
of Kayseri. It has been a long tradition in Kayseri to serve guests
with grilled sucuk at Mount Erciyes. After the barbecue party,
the participants will have some free time to spend sightseeing
or to take the cable to travel to the higher altitudes of the
mountain. Although it is not possible to ski in June, you may
snowball your colleagues if you are lucky. (Please pack a wind
breaker and a sweater and tennis or hiking shoes)
Gala Dinner (21 June 2008 Saturday): After the
sucuk barbecue party at Mount Erciyes, we will return to one of
the quality restaurants in Kayseri where we will have our Gala
dinner. The dinner will start at 8:00pm. Kayseri cousine is famous
in Turkey and you will have the opportunity to taste best samples
of local traditional meals in Kayseri during the dinner. We will
return to the conference hotel by buses after the dinner.
Cappadocia Tour (22 June 2008 Sunday): Our buses
will take us from the conference hotel and carry to neighboring
Cappadocia region. Places to be visited during this tour include
Göreme (an open-air museum with historical cave churces),
Derinkuyu (an ancient underground city), Zelve, Uçhisar
Fortress (a panoramic view of the Cappadocia region), Ürgüp
(“fairy chimneys”) and Avanos (the center for ancient
pottery making). The participants will be divided into groups
and each group will be accompained by a professional guide. The
lunch will be served at a local restaurant during the tour and
feature local meals. The tour will end with a special dinner event.
The dinner will last around 3 hours and will be accompanied by
a suprise “Turkish Night” live performance. There
will be unlimited open buffet meals and drinks. The dinner will
end at around 23:00 o’clock. We will have returned to the
conference hotel before 24:00 o’clock.
